Lake Starnberg

A holiday destination just outside Munich
 
Lake Starnberg is situated at the foot of the Alps, just 20km south-west of Munich. It is set against a magnificent panorama stretching from Mount Karwendel to Mount Zugspitze.

Lake Starnberg is always a hive of activity: pleasure boats offering tours of up to three hours and sailors taking advantage of excellent wind conditions. There are lots of wonderful places to swim, both on and around the lake. The Ambach recreation area has a large, grassy sunbathing area and a pebbly beach shelving gently into the water - ideal for families with small children. The Paradies recreation area in the former grounds of the Sisi palace (birthplace of Empress Elisabeth) near Feldafing has several bathing jetties. Children can have fun on the volleyball court and in the playground. The playground in Tutzing, one of the loveliest anywhere in Bavaria, is a child's dream come true - ten different climbing frames and space to play right at the water's edge.
