Saving $$$ in Germany

Frankfurt, EuroTower and sculpture by Ottmar Hoerl
In times of a recession-battered economy there are ample opportunities to save money when traveling to Germany and stretching the Euro by taking advantage of numerous discounts.

Explore our great tips and save on accommodation, transportation, activities, sightseeing, events and more...!

Germany offers plenty of accommodations to suit every taste and pocket. Choose from a wide range of hotels, available in all categories - at rates much lower than in other European countries. For example, the average room rate for a Berlin hotel is less than $ 200 while you would be facing $ 420 and up for a night in London or Paris.

Transportation within Germany is easy and comfortable but not necessarily expensive. The country's dense highway network - the famous "Autobahn" - is toll-free for passenger cars. Traveling by train or bus is also an easy and fun way to discover Germany's charm, history, or trendy hotspots. Check out rail passes and find inexpensive travel tips.

For travelers on a shoestring, Germany offers a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities free of charge. Discover the country's vast and varied natural landscapes in more than 90 nature parks and 14 national parks - the majority of them being free of charge!

Sightseeing in Germany doesn't have to break the bank either. Almost every big city offers a Welcome Card or a City Pass which includes the use of public transportation as well as discounts to museums, theaters and more.

Germany also hosts myriad events from Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, to smaller regional wine and food festivals - all without admission fee!
