Tip
It's not just the walks that are outstanding in the Baiersbronn region, but also its seven Michelin stars. No visit is complete without enjoying a meal cooked by one of the resident top chefs. For those on a tighter budget, the walkers' lodges serve hearty food of the highest quality - at very reasonable prices.

Exploring the Baiersbronn region on foot
Barely two years old, the Seensteig (Lakes Trail) has already established itself as one of the favourite walking trails in the Black Forest, still growing steadily in popularity. Designed in line with the latest criteria set out by the German Ramblers' Association, this modern route is one of Germany's star walks. Its paths lie primarily away from busy roads and lead right through the heart of nature. They feature seven tarn lakes - some quiet and secluded, some busy - and first-class restaurants.
The magic is in the mix
The best thing about the Seensteig is the easy accessibility of all its sections, while still offering the chance to experience nature at its best. Even the sections and stop-off points at high elevations are served by scheduled buses along the Black Forest Ridgeway - all the more reason to leave your car behind. The trail has been designed to allow walkers to stay overnight in Baiersbronn or surrounding villages, so there is no need for tedious, exhausting luggage transfers, leaving you plenty of energy to truly enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
Hikers can look forward to tarn lakes, thundering waterfalls and panoramic views from the highest peaks on the main ridge, while clambering over obstacles and marvelling at the devastation wreaked by Lothar, one of Germany's worst ever storms, along with many other unexpected, unforgettable experiences. There will be plenty of times when you'll want to pause, close your eyes and take a deep breath. But don't worry, there's no need to rush on the Seensteig - the trail design allows for this and provides relatively short, exciting sections.
