Erzgebirge mountains
With their varied landscape and great natural beauty, the Erzgebirge mountains are an amazing world of discovery. The mountains increase in height from north to south, gently rolling yet elemental and austere.
The Erzgebirge/Vogtland nature reserve extends along the Czech border in the upper reaches of the mountains. With its extensive forests, moorland, colourful meadows and quiet stream beds, the nature reserve is one of the last remaining natural paradises in Germany. It is a habitat for many rare animals and plants.
Down the centuries the area's natural riches and special climatic characteristics were important influences on the way it was used. 800 years of mining history have created a remarkable cultivated landscape with a distinctive profile.
Discover the Erzgebirge mountains, one of Germany's most beautiful mountain landscapes. There are miles of marked trails, even to the highest peaks, and visitors are rewarded with wonderful views of a unique mountain panorama.
