Events

For most of the year, life in the Rheingau revolves around its excellent wines. It's hardly surprising that the region is home to an abundance of wine festivals, including the "Wine & Gourmet Festival". In summer the banks of the Rhine provide the backdrop for one of the largest firework displays in Germany – sit back and enjoy it with a glass of riesling!

Rheingau Wine & Gourmet Festival
Every March the beautiful Rheingau provides the setting for this festival of fine wine and good food, attracting visitors from other countries as well as from all over the region. The event is centred around the "Kronenschlösschen" restaurant in Hattenheim, where a veritable who's who of chefs and vintners, both from Germany and abroad, parade their talents. With around 50 events there is something to suit all tastes and budgets.

Rhine in Flames
"Rhine in Flames" is one of the largest and oldest firework displays in Germany, attracting hundreds of thousands of enraptured visitors every summer. It's an all-day event, with stars from a variety of musical genres performing in marquees and on open-air stages. As evening draws in, the main event commences – the huge firework display, with boat cruises offering the best views of the romantically illuminated castles and palaces. The spectacle takes places on a number of dates between May and September along the river between Bonn and Hochheim.

Wine festivals in the Rheingau
All across the Rheingau countless wine festivals are held throughout the summer. Sometimes whole towns are taken over, sometimes just individual wine-growing estates. You're sure to find exquisite wines wherever you go, and this stunning backdrop is the perfect place to enjoy them, with open views of natural scenery, land that has been cultivated for centuries, and rolling contours as well as steep hills and valleys.
