Seiffen

Seiffen, the cradle of tradition and handicrafts in the Erzgebirge mountains, really comes to life during the festive season. At the beautifully illuminated Christmas market you can watch over the shoulders of the local artisans and see new items taking shape before your eyes. Sweet treats from the Erzgebirge region keep hunger at bay, and every day offers a new experience: the long-established miners' parades, for example, which feature the miners' guilds and a traditional children's costume group, or the torchlit procession along the old mining trails on 4 December (begins at 5pm; torches can be purchased on the day). Evocative concerts take place in the museum and the 'round church', and there is festive music outside the town hall. A visit to the toy museum is also recommended.
